Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (2000)

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is the final entry in the Dark Matter trilogy, following up from Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land 3.

In a distant corner of the galaxy, fairies lived peacefully on the planet called Ripple Star. But then one day, a mysterious black cloud appeared and surrounded the peaceful planet. The cloud, a sinister force known as Dark Matter, had come in search of the fairies' secret treasure—their shining Crystal.

A fairy named Ribbon knew that dreadful things would come to pass if Dark Matter gained control of the powerful Crystal. She grabbed the shining stone and escaped from Ripple Star—just before the planet was completely engulfed.

But as Ribbon fled, three dark clouds split from the mass of Dark Matter to chase her through space. And when they caught up with her and attacked, the fairies' crystal shattered into tiny shards, which dropped like falling stars in the solar system.

Still holding one of the Crystal Shards, Ribbon fell onto the planet called Pop Star, where—perhaps by fate—she ran smack in to Kirby. After hearing her desperate plight, Kirby resolved to help Ribbon recover all of the Crystal Shards.

Kirby and Ribbon travel across different planets to collect all of the Crystal Shards and are joined by Waddle Dee, Adeleine, and King Dedede. The group finally arrives at Ripple Star and defeat Miracle Matter, the supposed core of all Dark Matter.

As the heroes celebrate their victory, the celebration is cut short when the Crystal shoots a beam of light at the Fairy Queen, expelling the Dark Matter controlling her. The Dark Matter then travels into space and forms a new planet called Dark Star, which threatens the whole solar system again. Seeing that their adventure isn't quite done quite yet, Kirby uses his cell phone to call in his trusty Warp Star, allowing him and his friends to travel to Dark Star and finish the fight once and for all.

Kirby's friends help him make it to Dark Star's center, where he and Ribbon join together to fight 0², the true source of all Dark Matter. After defeating in a climactic battle, they and the others make a hasty retreat as Dark Star explodes into nothingness, ending its threat once and for all. They then return to Ripple Star, where the Fairy Queen hosts an award ceremony for the heroes. Ribbon herself awards Kirby with a kiss on the cheek, causing him to blush and stumble over the stairs.

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land (2011)

One day, a dimension-hopping spaceship called the Lor Starcutter suddenly flies out of a dimensional rift and crashes onto Kirby's home planet of Popstar. As Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede and Bandana Waddle Dee go to investigate, they meet an alien named Magolor, who discovers that the Energy Spheres that power his ship as well as 5 vital pieces of ship have been scattered across Popstar. Kirby and friends offer assistance to recover the lost pieces for Magolor.

After retrieving the main pieces, Magolor offers them a trip to his home world of Halcandra, where they are attacked by a four-headed dragon named Landia. Magolor claims Landia is an evil beast that has taken over Halcandra and asks Kirby to defeat it.

Kirby and friends defeat Landia however Magolor reveals his true motive was to steal the Master Crown on Landia’s head and become all-powerful. Magolor wears the crown and uses it to power himself up, with the intent of making the entire universe bow before him, beginning with Popstar.

Teaming up with Landia, who has split into 4 individual dragons, Kirby and friends chase Magolor in Another Dimension. During the chase, Kirby and friends disable the Lor Starcutter before battling Magolor once more.

With Kirby’s Super Abilities, Magolor is defeated but the Master Crown suddenly takes control of Magolor, turning him into a Doomer-like manifestation of itself known as Magolor Soul, and attacks Kirby and friends. Kirby and friends defeat Magolor Soul, freeing Magolor from the Master Crown’s control and shattering it. Afterwards, Magolor seemingly vanishes in a shaft of light.

With the Master Crown shattered and Magolor defeated, Kirby and friends return to Popstar, after a close call escaping the now collapsing Another Dimension. The Landia dragons take the Lor Starcutter and return home.

A remake Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe was released on the Switch. It includes improved graphics and additional content:

Extra Mode - Magolor Epilogue: Interdimensional Passage

Magolor, who is plummeting down a dimensional abyss after his defeat by Kirby and friends, has his magic dispersed across the realm alongside the shards of the crown, leaving his robes monochrome and tattered. Magolor eventually wakes up, having been stripped of most of his powers. He wanders around Aerogree Dimension for a bit, when suddenly, he is ambushed by Doomers. After defeating them, he gains a Fruit Fragment. Magolor is transported to the Ethereal Altar, where the fragment is placed on the pedestal and bestows Magolor a portion of his lost abilities.

After collecting all 5 fragments, they unite to form the Gem Apple Seed. However, before Magolor can take it, the shards of the Master Crown find their way to Magolor and possesses the seed, transforming into the Crowned Doomer. Magolor defeats the Crowned Doomer, but the shards take control of the seed and transform it into a giant tree. After weakening the crown, Magolor pulls out a sword from the ruins and forges his own Ultra Sword, which he uses to finish the crown off.

A dimensional rift then opens in front of Magolor, who enters it. Magolor ends up in the Dream Kingdom's Castle Village, where he finds that the Gem Apple Seed has become a small seedling. He plants the seedling in the village, then he establishes Magalor’s Shoppe,

Kirby Star Allies (2018)

Far away, on a planet-sized space station Jambandra at The Divine Terminus, a robed figure Hyness approaches the Jamba Heart, a giant black crystal heart encased in a glass ball and punctured by 4 magical spears. Hyness raises an incantation to remove the spears and shell surrounding the heart, which causes the heart to shatter, shooting pieces of it all over the galaxy.

Many of these pieces fly to Popstar, raining down on the planet. Meta Knight and King Dedede separately encounter the hearts and become entranced by them. Meanwhile, Kirby is sleeping beside a hollow hillside, when a separate heart-shaped ray hits his head, waking him up. Kirby discovers that Dedede's Waddle Dees are running toward Castle Dedede with food. Kirby rushes off toward the castle to put a stop to this. Along the way, Kirby discovers a new power within himself that allows him to charm enemies and make them into his friends.

With the help of his new allies, Kirby battles Whispy Woods, who drops one of the mysterious hearts upon defeat. Kirby then goes towards King Dedede's castle and confronts him. King Dedede immediately attacks, transforming into an overly muscular version of himself in the process. Despite this, Kirby manages to beat him, causing another one of the dark hearts to pop out of King Dedede as he reverts to normal. The heart then flies away on its own, prompting Kirby to give chase.

Kirby runs all over Popstar in pursuit of the hearts, ultimately bumping into Meta Knight, who is also possessed and forces a fight. After defeating Meta Knight and freeing him of his possession, a giant alien fortress called Jambastion, embeds itself into Popstar.

Kirby and his allies board the hostile base, battling the gatekeepers Pon & Con and making their way to the top. Along the way, they encounter the Three Mage-Sisters; Francisca, Flamberge, and the head general Zan Partizanne. As Kirby fights them, they reveal that they are in pursuit of the hearts which fell onto Popstar, intent on using them to revive their dark god. When Kirby defeats them, Zan Partizanne initiates the fortress's self destruct sequence, in hopes that Kirby will be trapped in the rubble. Instead, Kirby and his allies escape and fly off into outer space. They visit several alien worlds in pursuit of the remaining hearts. In the process, they are forced to fight the Mage-Sisters again, along with other formidable opponents.

Eventually, Kirby and his allies make it to Jambandra and the terminus where the Hyness is attempting to repair the crystal heart by recombining the pieces. Zan Partizanne tries to stop Kirby from interfering but is defeated.

Hyness then turns and proceeds to deliver a rant and reasserting his desire to awaken his dark god. He battles Kirby, but shortly into the fight, his hood gets knocked off, revealing his true face. From there, he uses the inanimate bodies of the Three Mage-Sisters as projectiles to fight Kirby with. Kirby ultimately beats Hyness, but this only forces him to resort to drastic measures. He sacrifices the Mage-Sisters, and then himself by plunging all of them into the heart, mending it completely and causing it to awaken.

The dark god forms into a terrible masked giant named Void Termina, Kirby uses a special power with his allies in the form of the Star Allies Sparkler to battle Void Termina. During the fight, Kirby and allies make their way into Void Termina's body and free Hyness and the Mage-Sisters from its grasp. After sustaining massive damage, Void Termina assumes its true form, Void (Astral Birth) which seems to resemble both Kirby and Dark Matter, and the allies battle it once more.

Kirby finishes Void off by summoning all of his allies to attack at once, destroying it. Kirby and allies escape as Void’s death causes the world they were fighting on to shatter. Kirby is knocked out by the debris but wakes up in outer space along with his allies. Together, they ride a Warp Star back to Popstar.

Extra Mode - Heroes of Another Dimension

Hyness’ continuous praying at the altar in The Divine Terminus causing multiple rifts to Another Dimension to open. Kirby and allies travel through the multiple rifts, collecting 120 Friend Hearts while battling parallel version of Whispy Woods (Parallel Woods), Twin Kracko, Meta Knight, and King Dedede to obtain 4 magical spears.

In the final rift, Kirby and allies watch as the 4 magical spears they collected pierce the Jamba Heart, releasing Corrupt Hyness. Corrupt Hyness battles Kirby while using 3 logs dressed up as the Three Mage-Sisters instead of the real ones. When Corrupt Hyness is defeated, he is knocked out cold, and the real Mage-Sisters arrive. They spend a moment to lament their situation as they gather around the unconscious Hyness before vowing to get revenge on Kirby and his team as they attack.

Kirby and allies defeat the Three Mage-Sisters and knock them to the ground. Kirby gathers all the Friend Hearts into a big Friend Heart and uses it on the Three Mage-Sisters to return them to their normal look. The Three Mage-Sisters then use their power to calm The Divine Terminus and bring a Warp Star down to carry Kirby and his team away. They wave him off, and as Kirby flies off, he leaves one last little heart which floats down to Hyness and restores him to normal.
